About AMSO

Uniting Mathematical Sciences & Optimization Research

AMSO is a professional and research association coordinating conferences, publications and collaboration in mathematical analysis, optimization, statistics and their applications — anchored at the Department of Mathematics, University of Lagos.

🎯

Our Mission

To advance research and practice in mathematical analysis, optimization, statistics and data science, and to connect scientists, engineers and practitioners who apply these tools to real-world problems — from industry and finance to national development and security.

🔄

Our Approach

Each year AMSO convenes an international conference and workshop series, publishes reviewed research through the International Journal of Mathematics Sciences and Optimization: Theory and Applications (IJMSOTA), and runs hands-on training in computational tools such as Python, R, LaTeX and MATLAB/Maple.

Our Story

From a University Research Group to an International Association

AMSO's programme traces back to the Mathematical Analysis and Optimization Research Group (MANORG) in the Department of Mathematics (and, in its early years, jointly with the Department of Computer Sciences) at the University of Lagos. What began as a departmental workshop series grew, edition by edition, into an international conference with partners across West Africa.

2016 – 2019 · ICAPTA, hosted with the University of Lagos and National Mathematical Centre, Abuja

MANORG runs its 3rd through 6th Annual Conferences and Workshops on Mathematical Analysis and Optimization: Theory and Applications (ICAPTA), building a track record in fixed point theory, optimization, and statistics.

2020 · Rebranded as ICMSO

The 7th Annual Conference, hosted at the National Mathematical Centre, Abuja, is held under the new name ICMSO — International Conference on Mathematical Sciences and Optimization — reflecting a broadened scope into AI, machine learning and data analytics.

2022 · International expansion

MANORG partners with the Institut de Mathématique et de Sciences Physiques (IMSP), Université d'Abomey-Calavi, Benin Republic, to co-host the 9th Annual ICMSO — AMSO's first conference held outside Nigeria — alongside a dedicated International Conference on Fractional Calculus and its Applications in Lagos.

Current
2023 → · The Association of Mathematical Sciences and Optimization (AMSO)

The programme is formalised under the Association of Mathematical Sciences and Optimization (AMSO), which hosts the 10th Annual ICMSO at the University of Lagos and continues to work alongside MANORG and its sister group, MAARG (Mathematical Analysis and Applications Research Group).
